Son Doong cave (in Vietnamese: dangle Sơn Đoòng, which means Mountain River Cave) is a cave in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, Bo Trach District, Quang Binh Province, Vietnam. The cave is placed near the Laos-Vietnam border. It has a gigantic fast-flowing underground river inside of it.
The cave was found by a local man named Hồ-Khanh in 1991. The nearby jungle guys have been terrified of the cave for the whistling sound it makes from the underground river.
Nevertheless, now not except 2009 was once it made recognized to the general public when a group of British scientists from the British Cave research association, led by Howard and Deb Limbert, carried out a survey in Phong Nha-Ke Bang from April 10-14, 2009.
Their progress was once stopped by means of a significant calcite wall. In step with Limbert, this cave is 5 instances bigger than the Phong Nha cave, beforehand viewed as the biggest collapse in Vietnam.
